In 1910, Gabrielle Chanel opened her first boutique on rue Cambon, in Paris. There she set a free-spirited elegance, made for movement. In February 1955, she designed the 2.55 bag: quilted leather and a chain interlaced with leather, worn on the shoulder to free the hands. Quilting, the chain and the double C have remained the house's signature ever since, from the 11.12 bag to two-tone slingbacks, from vanity cases to watches.
